The symptoms of Anorexia include: deliberate self-starvation, denial of hunger, compulsive exercise and an overriding fear of weight gain. Anorexia eventually results in severe malnutrition, with medical consequences such as shrunken organs, bone mineral loss (which can lead to osteoporosis), slowed metabolism and reflexes, low body temperature, low blood pressure, low immune response, irregular heartbeat (which can lead to cardiac arrest) and, in women, irregular or absent menstrual periods. Anorexic people tend to believe they are fat even if they are extremely thin. They typically feel that this is the only area of their life within their control, and so may resist any interference with their eating or exercise habits. Attempts to treat an anorexic against his or her will are almost always unsuccessful.
According to one study, a full half of all anorexics first going to hospital clinics do not find lasting recovery. Because the illness is psychological in origin, treatment must address its underlying cause instead of the superficial symptoms.
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who brought the Transcendental Meditation technique to the world more than 50 years ago, has revived and systematized Maharishi Vedic Vibration Technology. The word "Vedic" means pertaining to Veda, the field of Pure Knowledge or Total Knowledge of Natural Law.
For thousands of years, Veda and the Vedic Literature have been held to be the expression of the Total Knowledge of Natural Law. According to tradition, the Vedic sounds contained in Veda are the fundamental vibrations which structure the material universe, including the human body. Through a tender impulse of Vedic vibration, pain can be transformed into a feeling of pleasantness and abnormality can be transformed into normal physiological functioning.
